🏛️ About the Temple
Khatu Shyam Temple, situated in the town of Khatu in Sikar district, Rajasthan, India, is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimage sites. The temple is dedicated to Khatu Shyam Ji, believed to be the manifestation of Barbarika, the valiant grandson of Bhima and a great warrior from the Mahabharata.
According to legend, before the Kurukshetra war, Barbarika offered his head (sheesh daan) to Lord Krishna as a mark of devotion and sacrifice. Impressed by his unwavering faith, Krishna granted him a boon that in the Kaliyuga, he would be worshipped by Krishna’s own name — Shyam — and would bless his devotees with courage, faith, and prosperity.
It is believed that the temple marks the very place where Barbarika’s head was enshrined after the war. Devotees from across India visit Khatu Shyam Temple, especially during the Phalgun Mela, seeking the Lord’s blessings and relief from life’s troubles.
